About Bath, Maine

Front Street in Bath was recently named one of the 2009 10 Great Places in America by the American Planning Association. Bath was named one of the National Trust for Historic Preservations “Distinctive Destinations” in 2005 and in 1995, Bath was selected as number 17 of the 100 Best Small Cities in America. The downtown includes a lively mix of retail and service businesses, in a traditional downtown setting, only one block from the banks of the Kennebec River.

Downtown Bath has thriving antique shops, a “made in Maine shop”, an independent bookstore, furniture store, department store, candy store, shoe store and many specialty shops and restaurants. Bath Iron Works, one of Maine’s largest employers with contracts to build U.S. Navy Ships, is located just two blocks south of the downtown area.

Downtown offices, studios, storefronts and apartments are for lease by locally owned and managed company. Flexible terms for creative spaces one block from Kennebec River.

Main Street Bath coordinates promotions and activities for the downtown merchants. Some special promotions are Early Bird sales, Tent sale, Autumn Fest, Heritage Days, Farmers’ Market, summer concerts, flower boxes and lamp post planters, and An Old-Fashioned Christmas.

Bath is the county seat for Sagadahoc County, and a regional service provider. Reid State Park, Popham Beach State Park, Thomas Point Beach and Hermit Island, all regional recreational attractions, are within twelve to fifteen miles. Bath is also home to The Chocolate Church Arts Center and The Maine Maritime Museum as well as many historic architectural treasures.
